I love solo travelling but find it hard to find decent accommodation that is not too expensive. I have stayed in Hostels but as I have gotten older I can no longer cope with a dorm situation. Hostels that have private rooms expect you to pay for 2 persons making it as expensive as a hotel. I really enjoy meeting other travellers so do like staying in hostels rather than hotels. Does anyone have any great ideas on how to find budget accommodation for 1 person in Europe?
Hi
No, I'm not at home, I'm in The Philippines, more precisely, on Palawan Island. I'll be here for a while, then I'll move to Bohol Island for 1 week.
After 2 months in The Philippines, I can say I visited The Visayas and the furthest island - the locals call Palawan "the last frontier" and I don't blame them ( electricity only between 06.00 a.m. and 02.00 p.m.) . I arrived here by ferry , a very old, eaten by rust ferry, after 40 hours of sailing...but it was FUN ! I had a 4 hours stop in Cuyo Island, it lies in the middle of nowhere !
It was also very dirty, but hey, I'm a traveller not a movie star !
Hi there,
I have managed a few times to find terrific accommodation as follows and some not so good.
I was recently in Rome and managed to find an apartment with 3 bedrooms where they rent out each bedroom seperately. The cost was Euro 60.00 per night for the room with ensuite bathroom and it was right in the centre. Unfortunately she has decided to rent the apartment out now only as one booking for all 3 bedrooms. This is a great option but they are hard to find . I don't really like a lot of the Air BnB ones as they are usually staying with others and as a traveller who is coming and going through the day and night I feel it does not give me the privacy I want and I feel worried I disturb them.
In Amsterdam I stayed in a private room through Air BnB which was in a great location at Euro 70.00 per night. However as they both worked and got up early, I was constantly tiptoing around.
thank you so much for responding
there were a few suggestions I have never heard of and will research...
actually your post gave me an idea to start a post on alternative places to stay (have done a story already) but this post would be more of a resource list.
